Position Summary:


The Outreach and Education Specialist (OES) is primarily responsible for programming in middle schools and high schools throughout Dane County. The OES helps RCC increase sexual assault victim/survivor access to services through education and outreach primarly to youth, but also to adults, as needed.  This position is supervised by the Co-executive Director/Director of Outreach, who works closely with the Co-executive Director/Director of Client Services on quality outreach initiatives. The goal of outreach is to increase victim access to RCC’s emotional support and personal advocacy and to educate the community on the personal, familial and community impact of sexual assault, through education and outreach platforms.  The OES is responsible for assisting in the development of effective outreach materials and  education curriculum and building relationships with new and existing community partners. As with all RCC employees, the OES must be committed to providing services with and to a variety of cultures with cultural awareness, sensitivity and humility.

Primary Position Duties:


Provide Outreach Education throughout Dane County
  • Assist in the creation of outreach materials and curriculua
    • Assist in maintaining and updating a trauma-informed, empowerment-focused, culturally rich outreach program.
    • Assist in the development of RCC’s Education Department Evaluation Plan to develop and maintain evidence-based or evidence-informed curricula that is creative, innovative, and population-specific. 
    • Work with the Development and Communications staff to create outreach materials that are consistent with RCC branding and which are designed to increase participation of diverse and underserved populations.
    • Collaborate with the Prevention Specialist to create outreach materials for GameChangers Youth Leadership and Advisory Board and School-Based Gender Equity clubs. 
  • Conduct Outreach
    • Use provided materials to deliver outreach programming through written, online/digital, video, live presentations and other appropriate formats.
    • Provide outreach presentations to youth and adults in middle schools, high schools, community agencies, and other locations and groups.
    • Collaborate with Client Services Department to ensure that all victims who disclose to OES receive prompt, appropriate services.
Build Effective Community Partnerships
  • Maintain strong working relationships with area service providers and ensure agency representation at appropriate collaboration meetings and events related to sexual assault education.
  • Assist in planning one or more RCC outreach events during April for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) dedicated to ending sexual violence and intersecting forms of oppression, including, but not limited to racism, classism, homophobia and sexism. 
  • Develop and maintain mailing lists for RCC outreach. 
Program and General
  • Assist Co-executive Director/Director of Outreach in development and implementation of short and long-range outreach and education goals.
  • Regularly and in a timely manner, brief Co-executive Director/Director of Outreach on programming activities and community relationships.
  • Participate in staff meetings and in-services to maintain regular contact with colleagues and supervisor.
  • Provide technical support to other members of the team as needed.
  • Participate in the general upkeep of office space.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
  • Complete RCC Helpline training program.

Education or Skills:


Required Qualifications
  • Equivalent experience or bachelor’s degree in Women and Gender Studies, Social Work, Teaching, Education or related field or equivalentwork experience.
  • Understanding of sexual violence and related issues.
  • Ability to effectively build strong relationships with youth, adult and diverse audiences.
  • Personal and professional experience with using culturally responsive practices to engage with and/or serve diverse populations. 
  • Excellent public speaking, verbal communication and written communication skills.
  • Experience creating attractive and effective outreach materials. 
  • Ability to organize and maintain materials, data, meeting minutes and logistics.
  • Comfort and competence in working independently and as part of a team.
  • Access to reliable private transportation with appropriate license and insurance and ability to travel throughout Dane County.
  • Work flexible work hours that include some evenings and weekends.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Background Check. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English. 
  • Experience with statistical evaluation.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Create Suite, Publisher, social media applications, and video production tools.
